Have you ever seen someone so good at their craft that they make it look easy? Have you seen an athlete that floats around the other players, all beauty and finesse, or a musician riffing on the themes, fingers flying down the keys? Maybe you've seen a painter deftly applying vivid colors to canvas? Their skill and confidence belie the difficulty of the task.
Hawthorne Grove's success is in making wines that taste effortless. Our wines are often described as casually elegant, as the kind of wines you can keep coming back to, wines you are happy to bring to a friend's, wines you want to open with every meal because they are perfectly balanced.
At Hawthorne Grove, we are committed to finding great ingredients to make great wine. When we set out to make our first wine we thought it would be a Bordeaux style-blend. Everywhere we looked the varietals we wanted were underwhelming, but thankfully California has a lot to offer.
We tasted around, and piece by piece we built something different. Some brilliant Petit Verdot here, a dash of smooth Zinfandel there and a blend started to emerge. This wasn't the wine we set out to make, it was better. We still use that first experience as a guiding light in our winemaking.
We have an amazing group of people working at Hawthorne Grove. Olga Crawford, our head winemaker, is an industry veteran and Master of Wine candidate passionately making Hawthorne Grove from the heart of Napa Valley. Our entire team is excited about showing up every day to make something that we are proud of.
